M192. Multiuser System for Remote Management of Network Devices
1. Aim
The Multiuser System for Remote Management of Network Devices (ReMOND) is a solution that can be used for administrating network equipment over the Internet. Its main focus is the Server Application component, the communication backbone, which permits the setup of a secure connection between the clients and the remote devices.
On top of this core infrastructure, we are building a web-based user interface to enable the management and also add functionality and automation to the system.
2. Objectives
- Developing a stable and secure implementation of a Multiuser System for Remote Management of Network Devices that would provide users with a way to configure equipment from anywhere they have access to the Internet;
- The system proposed will have a layered, modular design that isolates the hardware components – actual network equipment and other control devices – from the high level operations, such as user connection management and synchronized access to equipment;
- For increased accessibility, the application will offer access to clients through an easy to use and intuitive graphical interface;
- In order to be used as a classroom teaching system, a special user management infrastructure will be created;
- After having a robust access method to the equipments, the matter of functionality comes to play. Scripts for automated actions such as password recovery or device powercycle will be deployed.

ReMOND: Multiuser System for Remote Management of Network Devices
In order for a project regarding remote device management to be considered complete, it must provide the user with all the features and options present in a scenario where the user was within physical reach of the equipment. Since the machines themselves were not designed for such remote management on the console port a solution had to be sought. Our view of the solution is presented in this material. The final goal is to be able to simulate an environment as close to the real possibilities offered by direct physical access.
We have already begun implementing the project and a basic connectivity for managing the devices has already been achieved. After getting through all of the stages presented, we trust that the final project will emerge as a complete, complex and versatile solution for remote configuration access pointed towards both laboratory work in an academy environment but also towards rack rental facilities. ReMOND is designed to become an easy to use remote configuration application for networking devices that provides the user with all the available features, just as if he was accessing that piece of equipment from within the same room.
